Marjoram
Marjoram, Origanum majorana
Marjoram is a long lasting annual or tender perennial grown in the garden or potted. Frost will kill it, so if you are growing it in a container, you must protect it or bring it inside when there is danger of frost.
Marjoram prefers a rich, light soil. Any good potting soil will meet that requirement. It also needs a sunny spot in the garden or on the patio, but it should be somewhat sheltered from our winds. If growing it in the garden, space the plants about 12 inches apart. Marjoram will grow to a height of 8 to 12 inches. When planting or transplanting your new marjoram plant, keep it at the same level as it was in the original pot.
Marjoram is a wonderful herb for seasoning so many dishes in the kitchen… and it is included in the ingredients list of many dishes.
The herb has antioxidant and antifungal properties, which add to its usefulness, even outside the kitchen.
It is used to relieve sinus congestion, asthma, rheumatism, indigestion, and to fight cancer. However, its use, other than the small amounts used in cooking, is not recommended during pregnancy as it may irritate the uterus.
Perennial in Zones 9-10, unless there is a frost.
3 inch pot – $3.00
